Hulor Gaan

ধুক ক’রে নিভে গেল বুকভরা আশা;

A pitch-black night, trees like black velvet, fireflies striking light under the banyan. Come, brother tomcat, let us sing — whispered in each other's ears at the top of our voices. A half-broken moon comes up, and he remembers half a malpua left by the pot since yesterday. He runs, and sees the crop-eared cat licking her lips with her cheeks full of it. So he sings.

Sukumar Ray wrote Hulor Gaan for Abol Tabol, published in September 1923.
